This review is for the 36” Voodoo Tactical carbine case.I already have an older, very similar case made by Condor. I bought it about ten years ago because I really liked the design of the case and because it was very economically priced at, IIRC, around $36.Unfortunately, two of the zipper pulls recently broke as well as the zipper to the main compartment itself. Because I still like the overall design of this case, I decided to replace it with this almost identical case by Voodoo Tactical. The zipper pulls on the VT case are slightly larger than those used on the Condor, and I hope, more durable. The zippers themselves appear to be identical to those used on my older Condor case. Here’s crossing my fingers for the best. As with the Condor, the VT case has three small external compartments; two small compartments and one central compartment approx. twice the size of the two smaller ones to either side. I do like this layout as well as the proportions of these storage compartments. Although they are intended primarily to hold spare magazines for an AR15 type rifle, they are not proportioned in such a way as to be exclusive for this use. I like this feature as many of the cases designed for AR15s have an overall appearance that pretty much screams to any casual observer that an AR15 is what’s inside. This VT case, like the older Condor case, is slightly more discreet in its appearance. One additional comment regarding the small compartments. On my older Condor case, these three compartments are removable, being held onto the case with the Molle system of rows of fabric loops through which snap straps, attached to the pouches themselves, are threaded. On the VT case, the small compartments are permanently attached, but there are two adjacent sets of Molle loops to the outside ends of the case that will allow the attachment of two additional storage pouches. In my case, I can attach the two small removable Molle pouches from my old Condor case onto my new VT case if I want to.There is another large storage compartment behind the smaller external ones that is subdivided into two compartments w/Velcro closures intended to hold pistols. The corresponding compartment in my older Condor case does not have these two sub-compartments.The main compartment of the case has two pairs of Velcro tie-down straps to hold the rifle in place inside the main compartment. Unlike my older Condor case, the VT case duplicates this layout on both sides of the main compartment allowing for the accommodation of a second rifle opposite the first one. There is a padded central divider to prevent two rifles from coming into contact with each other.I’m wondering whether this case is really sufficiently robustly constructed to allow for the weight of two rifles (plus possibly two handguns) AND loaded magazines and extra ammo.Frankly, I’m doubtful. But of course, one does not have to use the case for all of these functions all at the same time. But, I DO like the overall design of this case for many reasons; size, practical utility/versatility, overall appearance, etc. Some reviewers have complained that the “bottom” of the case is not padded and that a scoped rifle when placed in the case will end up lying upside down on its scope with the scope unprotected by any padding. This is not true.I double checked my case for padding and found the same padding at the bottom panel as that used in the “surround lip” that protects the edges of the case. It is not super thick. It is approximately 3/8” dense foam (not squishy, soft foam).Secondly, it is important to place the rifle in the case so that when zipped up and carried, the rifle is not upside down! What this means is that when one places the rifle in the case, the rifle must be placed into the case “upside down”. Then, when the case is zipped up and carried, the rifle will be right side UP. Okay, maybe it is a little bit awkward to remember to pack the rifle into the case upside down to begin with, but it’s really pretty easy to get used to and no big deal.Overall, I like this case a lot in spite of it being more than twice the cost of my older Condor case. I just like the design of the thing. Hope springs eternal that this case will prove to be better made than my older Condor version.I purchased Voodoo Tactical padded weapons case 36" to put inside the Pelican iM3100 36" hard case and fits perfectly side to side with some room on top, good if you want to store extra things outside the soft case. I read that many 3-gun people have done this method while traveling all around the country and it's protected their stuff without any issues during storage or shipment. It's a great setup vs foam for better versatility and a nice quick and grab situation to take the soft case out of the hard case and to the range. Voodoo makes good quality products and has nice features in all their bags. This padded case has all the basic pouches and padding you'll need to last many years. One important thing I want to note is that Voodoo changed some of their construction slightly, and thankfully for the better, so there is a newer and still the older version still being sold out there.I had two orders around the same time last month with different sellers and noticed that they were slightly different when looking closely. The review I'm doing for this one, I got the newer version. The differences are as follows with the newer version:1) The padding is slightly thicker and noticeably denser on the padding that surrounds the edges protecting the rifles compartments and also with the middle divider.2) The padding is thicker on the shoulder strap harnesses and a little more padding was added to the very top portion, possibly protecting from the buckle area.3) The locking zippers have only one eyelet each and are a little easier to put together instead of the double eyelet of the older. Also, when put together, the one eyelet allows some movement side to side without putting stress on the eyelets. I don't think this would be much of a problem anyways, but worth noting. (The imagine what I'm talking about, try interlocking two fingers from each of your hands together vs just one).4) The stitching seems better and more secure. with a tight crosshatch pattern done on critical stress points instead of just a single backstitch. I have a 42 inch Voodoo bag I've used a lot for 4 years of the old design, and it's still holding strong, so they are still well put together.5) *Little details - On the bottom portion of the backstrap, the strap itself, one end is stitched to a loop instead of cut off straight. On the front pouch cover flaps, the front strapping that holds the buckle is stitched through both layers of nylon on the cover (the old design just stitched through the first layer. Also on the front pouches, the velcro on the body goes up 1/4 of an inch past the top end whereas the older version it was even. This probably helps in two ways, one, acting as a grabbing point to pull the pouch out easier and basically gives you a little extra velcro area to secure to when the pouch is full. Inside the front zippered compartment (the one that has two velcroed 12" compartments where you can put pistols or whatever), opposite of that side, there are two zippered compartments, a bigger and smaller one. The bigger one's zipper on mine was 1/4" longer compared to the older version making it 12.25" which is nicer as you can put in and take out a folder easier. I'm assuming this area is for maps, documents and such, where a folder of 12" fits nicely, securing your papers if needed. ( choix personnel )When I received the package it came in a huge box and I thought that was most of the weight. When I removed the case I found that it was in fact heavier than I would have thought. Not an issue at all. Everything is made with a heavy duty material and zippers feel fantastic. When I need another one I will look at Voodoo Tactical again.
